With the Holiday’s and legislators still staffing their offices, there has not been a lot of movement in Sacramento.

However, there are a few items of note.

In school bus replacement there are two upcoming meetings. The first, is a the Energy Commission workshop regarding the bulk pricing of electric school buses for the Energy Commission’s School Bus Replacement Program. The second, is a California Air Resources Board (CARB) workshop regarding the development of the new $10 million Clean Mobility in Schools Pilot Project.

Last but, by no means least, the Home-to-School Transportation bill we are working on with CSBA has been submitted to legislature’s legal department  to be drafted into legislation. In addition, we are still working on collection information through the 2018 Home-to-School Transportation Survey. If you have not done so yet, please fill out  the 2018 Home-to-School Transportation Survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/SNPWC3Q We only had 49 participants. Any additional participation is greatly appreciated.

Public Work Group Teleconference on the Clean Mobility in Schools Pilot Project

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) is pleased to invite you to participate in a public work group to discuss the development of the Clean Mobility in Schools Pilot Project of the Low Carbon Transportation Investments and Air Quality Improvement Program (AQIP). 

This work group will provide an opportunity to meet with staff and other participants interested in the development of the Clean Mobility in Schools Pilot Project.  Staff will provide an overview of the process, criteria, and potential implementation strategies.  Staff will be available to answer questions and receive stakeholder input.

Professional Development Opportunities

CASBO has been working with a couple of long-time CASTO members to develop a School Transportation Leadership certificate program.  CASTO supported this effort.  The program will occur over ten months and consume one weekend per month, with a Friday evening class, and an all-day Saturday class.  This will be a rigorous program that is designed to train current and prospective school transportation leaders in the technical aspects of the job of Director, Supervisor or Manager, as well as prepare students for the elements and nuances of leadership.  Check out our new Professional Development page for more information.
